Which marquee is right for me?

If you have never had to hire a marquee in Essex before, then the choice can be baffling. But don’t worry, because this simple guide should help you narrow it down and you can always call our friendly team for advice if you’re not sure.

What size marquee do I need?

There are no hard and fast rules for marquee hire, but the following formula can help you find the right size of marquee hire for your guests:

• Dining guests need around 1.25sqm per person
• Buffet guests need around 0.9sqm per person
• A seated audience needs around 0.8sqm per person
• Standing guests need around 0.6sqm per person

For example:

A formal, seated dinner with 110 guests will need our 12m x 12m marquee.
(1.25sqmx 110 = 137.5sqm 12mx 12m marquee = 144sqm)

A buffet with casual seating for 80 guests will need our 12m x 6m marquee
(0.9sqm x 80 = 72sqm 12m x 6m = 72sqm)

A social event with drinks and canapes for 80 guests will only need our 8m x 6m marquee
(0.6sqm x 80 = 48sqm 8m x 6m= 48sqm)

What shape marquee do I need?

The other thing to consider when hiring a marquee in North or East London, is the shape. Marquees come in a range of layouts, from long and thin to squarer shapes, and each is suited to different events.
Square marquees lend themselves to formal dinners, because they keep everyone close to the action and no one feels left out. More rectangular shapes lend themselves to dinner dances, with a band or disco and dancefloor at one end.
Longer marquees are ideal for music, comedy and theatre performances, as well as corporate presentations, although these can also be done ‘in the round’ in squarer shapes.
Long thin marquees are ideal for county shows, fairs and fetes, where you have a large number of exhibitors or stalls. These allow visitors to browse everything on offer in one place.
